FIFA World Cup Qualification Bangladesh

2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification Bangladesh: Bangladesh has started its road to the 2022 Fifa World Cup. In this blog post, we will be taking a look at their fixtures and how they are expected to do in the qualifiers.

FIFA Worldcup 2022 Qualification Process

The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification process will decide 31 of the 32 teams which will participate in the 2022 FIFA World cup, with Qatar as the host nation automatically qualified. The qualification process started with the preliminary draw on 25 July 2015. A total of 209 teams registered for the preliminary draw. The qualification process consists of a two-legged tie system. The 26 winners of the first-round ties join the six teams which have qualified from their continental championships. These 32 teams then compete in a knockout tournament, with the winner qualifying for the World Cup.

Bangladesh’s Previous FIFA Worldcup Qualifying Campaigns

Bangladesh has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. However, they have come close on a few occasions. In the 1998 edition of the qualification campaign, Bangladesh finished in 3rd place in their group and narrowly missed out on qualification. In 2002, they finished in 4th place in their group and were again unsuccessful in qualifying. 2006 was their worst performance yet, as they finished at the bottom of their group. 2010 was slightly more successful, as they finished in 3rd place in their group, but they still failed to qualify for the main tournament. 2014 was another unsuccessful campaign, as they finished in 4th place in their group. Finally, in 2018, Bangladesh finished in 5th place out of 6 teams in their group and failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Bangladesh’s Group in FIFA World cup: Bangladesh has been placed in Group E for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, along with UAE, Bahrain, and Thailand. The qualifiers held in early 2021, and Bangladesh will face UAE, Bahrain, and Thailand in a home-and-away format.

Bangladesh’s Prospect in FIFA Worldcup 2022 Qualifying Round

Bangladesh is placed in the 4th pot of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This means that they are in with a chance of progressing to the next round, but it will be a tough ask. They have been drawn into Group D along with Oman, Afghanistan, and Qatar. If they can upset one of these teams and finish in the top two, they will progress to the next round. However, it is more likely that they will finish in 3rd or 4th place and get knocked out.

Bangladesh Football Federation’s Preparation for Qualification

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is all set to participate in the FIFA Worldcup 2022 qualifiers, which are set to begin in September 2019. Ahead of the qualifiers, the BFF has been making all necessary preparations, including upgrading the infrastructure and improving the standard of football in the country. They have also appointed a new head coach for the national team and are working on expanding the player pool. To better their chances of qualification, the BFF is leaving no stone unturned and is hopeful of a successful campaign.
